Let the Holidays Begin!

Have you had enough travel for Thanksgiving? Stuffed to the gills so that you can’t move? If you’re one of those that stayed put for the traditional family gathering and are ready to take on the next phase of seasonal frolick, there’s plenty of special activites starting this weekend to get you in the mood for the Christmas holiday. After all, it is just one month away!

I’ve decided to put together a list of fun time, holiday spirit activities for everyone: single, couple, or family. You make the choice. And since I live in the Pacific Northwest state of Washington, the activities and festivites listed here are for this region only. So everyone else outside this immediate area has my permission to leave this blog now! Unless, of course, you have some friends and family in the mentioned areas that might be interested in some of the activities. In that case, go ahead and give them a ring or send an email to let them know the fun they can participate in.

Let’s start with the Bavarian tourist town of Leavenworth, nestled along the east side of the Cascades in Washington State. I mean, how much more traditional European Christmas can you get with Christkindlmarkt? The festivities continue all weekend long.

If wine sampling is your thing, the Yakima Valley Wineries are having their Thanksgiving in Wine Country all weekend as well. Valley local wineries will open their doors for sampling to celebrate the season. And speaking of wineries, if you happen to be in the Columbia River Gorge area, the popular Maryhill Winery will be hosting its Holiday Open House over the weekend, offering music and hundreds of gifts. Get a sampling of wine along with a sampling of an eye-popping view of the gorge!

If you want to participate in one of the largest winter craft shows, pack the car and head to Ocean Shores, Washington for the Winter Fanta-Sea Craft Show. The show will continue throughout the weekend at the Ocean Shores Convention Center. See link for schedule. Best of all—it’s free!

In the metropolitan Puget Sound area, Seattlites are getting into the holiday spirit with Winterfest officially starting at the Seattle Center, featuring ice skating, concerts, a Santa Train, and more. At Lake Union and Lake Washington, the Argosy Christmas Ship Festival begins sailing to waterfront communities, decked in Christmas lights and on-board revelers singing Christmas carols. And if hundreds of thousands of colorful, little lights turn you on, visit the Point Defiance Park ZooLights in Tacoma just getting started. This is great fun for the whole family that will amaze and bedazzle you!

I’m sure there are lots more seasonal activities just starting in many local Washington communities this Thanksgiving weekend. If you know of any and want to add them to the list, please feel free to mention them in your comments.
