Goodbye Drought…Hello Rain!

Well, it’s officially over with…the drought, that is. On day 82, the rains finally fell! Now, don’t ever let anyone tell you that it rains all the time in Seattle. Perhaps this was Mother Nature’s way of getting back at all the bad jokes she’s had to put up with for so long. I don’t blame her. I, myself, have tried to educate many a traveler to the region to not be so discriminatory. I’ve won over a few hearts…I think.

With the cooler and wetter weather set in now, I am glad that I went to Mount Rainier National Park last week to photograph the autumn colors. I say this because some of the recent rains fell as snow in the mountains. “The mountain” has a fresh coat of snow. Even the colorful, autumn trails at Paradise received a dusting of the white stuff. The Olympic Mountains have a fresh coat of snow as well. Tonight, another system is going to roll through the area, this time with even cooler temps, making the freezing elevation come down to 3,000 ft or more. That is quite low. Climate predictions for November were just released today, stating that it is supposed to be a cooler and drier month ahead for us.

So, in between weather systems, I was able to get outside today to take a few more fall photos at a favorite, local park. There’s still plenty of leaves left on many trees. Some species haven’t even turned their intense colors yet, while others have already dropped most of their leaves.

  1. A beautiful variety of colours!

Here in the Ottawa Valley, our leaves are turning; some are already on the ground, others are still green.

  2. Beautiful photos! I especially love the ones of the Japanese maples. What a stunning tree.

    • Thank you! I love the Japanese maples too. They are very photogenic and stunning in color during the autumn. This particular tree is located in a little Japanese garden in the park that I like to frequent.

  3. How beautiful! We have some impressive fall colors this year, but the leaves fall almost immediately upon turning….

    • Thank you! The leaves are still turning here, since we had a rather late autumn. With the sudden cold and rainy weather last week, the process is being sped up. It’s winter wonderland up in the mountains now.

Thank you!
