Beautiful and Fragrant Mountain Fire

One of the most beautiful, blossoming plants of the spring season is the Mountain Fire (Pieris japonica), sometimes referred to as Mountain Fire Lily of the Valley or Japanese Andromeda. When you walk by these plants, you’ll notice a beautiful fragrance from them that fills the air. These lovely plants are actually evergreen shrubs. They start out with variegated, green and white leaves. In the spring, new shoots are a bright, pink color. Clusters of white, Lily of the Valley-like flowers appear along with their heavy fragrance. The flowers can be white or shades of pink.
