It’s already the end of August! Where did the summer go? I took a walk in the flower gardens at Point Defiance Park – Tacoma, this afternoon. The lighting was perfect for floral picture talking—a nice cloud filled sky. I could feel a touch of September in the slight breeze blowing. I hadn’t taken many pictures of the Dahlia garden yet, always a delight to first time garden visitors (and longtime garden visitors). When many of the summer blooms are already fading away, the proud Dahlia raises its head high, long into September. I also noticed that the Rose garden is still blooming strong. So if you’re passing through Tacoma and have a few hours to spare, why not stop by Point Defiance Park and visit the gardens. You won’t be disappointed!
Below are a few samples of Dahlia images I took today. I took over a hundred photos, and it was a difficult choice which handful I should post here. I tried to include as many of the different varieties as possible: decorative, waterlily, anemone, ball, cactus, fimbriated, collarette. Whichever are your favorites, I hope you find a few here.

Lovely. I hadn’t seen the yellow with red splatters before. Dahlias sure are gorgeous and they show up when so many other blossoms are fading. Great shots, Peggy!
Thanks, Gunta! I had seen those speckled type dahlias, either. That particular type of coloring is called “variegated.”
Beautiful variety of dahlias… such wonderful colours! Nice photos, Peggy. 🙂
Thanks, Iris! Glad you enjoyed the dahlias! They are such beautiful flowers!
Yes, they are gorgeous and enjoy the autumn season!
These are beauties!
Thanks so much, William! Glad you enjoy these summer beauties!
Dahlias are one of the special jewels in this world.
They definitely are special jewels! It’s as if they are in defiance of the changing season.
Stunners, all of them! Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos.
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed them!
