Dahlia Daze

It’s already the end of August! Where did the summer go? I took a walk in the flower gardens at Point Defiance Park – Tacoma, this afternoon.  The lighting was perfect for floral picture talking—a nice cloud filled sky. I could feel a touch of September in the slight breeze blowing. I hadn’t taken many pictures of the Dahlia garden yet, always a delight to first time garden visitors (and longtime garden visitors). When many of the summer blooms are already fading away, the proud Dahlia raises its head high, long into September. I also noticed that the Rose garden is still blooming strong. So if you’re passing through Tacoma and have a few hours to spare, why not stop by Point Defiance Park and visit the gardens. You won’t be disappointed!

Below are a few samples of Dahlia images I took today. I took over a hundred photos, and it was a difficult choice which handful I should post here. I tried to include as many of the different varieties as possible: decorative, waterlily, anemone, ball, cactus, fimbriated, collarette. Whichever are your favorites, I hope you find a few here.

Lovely. I hadn’t seen the yellow with red splatters before. Dahlias sure are gorgeous and they show up when so many other blossoms are fading. Great shots, Peggy!
